Going to see Zelda After the first few cutscenes, you’ll start the game as Link standing in his room. Nothing much to do here, but you can get a blue rupee by opening his cupboard. Once you’re out of Link’s room, go left to leave the academy. You can talk to Pipit and help Fledge carry barrels into the kitchen, but there are no real tangible rewards for doing these. Once you’re outside, Instructor Horwell should speak to you and teach you more about controls. By the time his tutorial is done, you’ll be on the roof of the academy. He’ll ask you to help recover the remlit he’s watching, but again, there’s no tangible reward for this. Go right, then up the stairs, and you’ll meet up with Zelda. Find your Loftwing Once the cutscene is done, you have to investigate the disappearance of your loftwing. Headmaster Gaepora asked you to talk to Horwell, but this isn’t required. Go back into the academy and talk to Pipit. He’ll agree to search, and recommend you ask around the Plaza. Exit the academy through the ground floor, and go through the door outside to your right which is now open. Simply follow the path and you’ll arrive at the plaza. You’ll see three boys on the opposite end of the plaza from you. Walk up to them, and another cutscene will happen. Once this is done, go back to the academy. However, don’t go inside. If you walk underneath the arch that you walked across earlier to get to Horwell, you’ll find another area. Pipit and Fledge will be there, and Pipit will call you over. Fledge will tell you he heard your loftwing is somewhere near a waterfall, and Pipit will mark where you need to go on your map. But don’t go straight to there – the path is blocked and you need a sword to clear it. Go in the building right near where you Fledge and Pipit are. There’s a door right behind the man there - the Knight Commander, go right in and open the chest to get the practice sword. You can practice on the logs if you like, but the Commander will stop you on your way out regardless. Once the conversation’s over, you can leave. It’s fairly easy to find your way to the pond if you look at the map, or you can just follow the path from earlier until you get there. Simply jump across the stones to get to the other side. Go right to get to the cave, and Link will have a vision of his loftwing boarded up. Cut down the trees low enough (cutting them, then a stab or vertical slice gets rid of them completely) so you can walk through. Waterfall Cave is very linear, but there are a few opportunities for rupees. The two types of enemies here are Keese and Chus. Keese take two sword hits to kill, and the chus you just keep hitting until they’re completely gone. Once you’re outside of the cave, you’ll rendezvous with Zelda. Just walk along the path and she’ll follow you. Soon you’ll see your loftwing, sure enough, boarded up. Cut the ropes holding up the boards and they’ll fall, and once you’ve broken them all a cutscene will activate. Zelda will tutor you on how to fly your loftwing. Just practice for a bit, and eventually she’ll decide you two should return to Skyloft. The Wing Ceremony More cutscenes, and you’ll begin the race! The concept is simple, just get close enough to the little bird and press A to get the statue. If you’re having difficulty catching it, try flying up very high, then quickly diving down to the bird Though, the first time you get close enough, Groose, Cawlin, and Strich will prevent you from winning. Just dodge their eggs and get to it again, and you’ll win the race. Tragedy Strikes After many more cutscenes, you’ll find yourself standing in Link’s room once again. You can open the cupboard and get another blue rupee-it respawns every time you leave Skyloft and return. Leave the room, and you’ll see the strange blue and purple girl from before. Walk towards her, and she’ll back away. Keep following her. On the way you’ll find an interesting new enemy, a hostile remlit. It will attack you, but if you hit it twice with your sword it will run away. The girl will continue leading you, simply follow her. Watch for ledges to climb and edges to jump across. Eventually, you’ll chase her to the front of the Statue of the Goddess. She’ll go inside, and you follow her. She will introduce herself as Fi, and instruct you to take up the Goddess Sword. Once you have it in hand, raise your wiimote skyward and hold it steady until the sword is fully charged. More talk, and  and Gaepora will arrive. Fi will give you the Emerald Tablet, hit the loftwing shaped crest with a Skyward Srike, walk up to the open spot underneath the crest and press A to put it in. The rest of the cutscene will play out. You’ll resume the game, once again, in Link’s room. Walk out, and Fledge will give you an Adventure Pouch - you can store non-weapon items in this. Leave through the ground floor door, and talk to Instructor Owlan. He’ll give you a wooden shield for free. Equip it with – and you can be on your way. Now the Bazaar is unlocked to you. There are many shops in the Bazaar, but the only one of real use right now is the potion shop. Talk to the lady in the center of the potions, and she’ll give you a free Empty Bottle. You can buy potions from her by walking up to the one you want and pressing A to talk about it. The man in the shop across from hers can sell you a wooden shield, but if you got the free one from Owlan you won’t have to pay for one. Once all business in Skyloft is complete, go ahead and dive off a dock, and call your loftwing. Fly to the big green light you saw before, and once you're above it, you should see the Dive option. Jump off your loftwing and begin your adventure!
