It's not too surprising, but it is a bit disappointing. Nintendo is following the lead of Sony and Microsoft and increasing the MSRP of the Switch 2 in all regions. This change will take effect on May 25, 2026 in Japan but not until September 1, 2026 in the rest of the world. In the states the price will increase by $50 to an MSRP of $499.99.
| Region | Old Price | New Price | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $449.99 | $499.99 | ~11% |
| Canada | $629.99 | $679.99 | ~8% |
| Europe | €469.99 | €499.99 | ~6% |
| Japan | ¥49,980 | ¥59,980 | ~20% |
In addition to the Switch 2, all models of the original Switch are also getting a price increase in Japan, something that has already happened in other markets. It's certainly strange to see an MSRP increase in a console that's nearly 10 years old. Switch Online pricing will be increasing too, but only in Japan.
While not particularly welcome this news did seem inevitable, considering the drastic increase in chip prices recently and a healthy dose of tarrifs. A small amount of monetary relief can be found in the new variable pricing Nintendo is using for games, where some of the new Switch 2 releases are being priced at $49.99 for the digital version, with some retailers in the US price matching the physical version.
If you're in the west and planning on getting a Switch 2, you might want to do it before September 1.
